Over the Candlesticks

Over the Candlesticks

We’ve had these particular candlesticks in our house for a long time, and I’ve always wanted to photograph them; I just never quite had a vision of how I wanted to photograph them. Today I decided to experiment a little with placements (on a table, on the floor, on a smaller table, etc), backgrounds (and rooms) and camera settings (finally decided on wide open aperture – f4.5 on this lens – and shutter speed of around 1.3 seconds) to see if I could create something that brought out shapes and colors without being a straight-on portrait. I think I got something on around the 10th or 11th photo, then I used Photoshop to create the lomo effect and further increase the blur on the top and left sides.

I think it came out pretty good, what do you think? When have you wanted to photograph something without knowing exactly what you wanted to do with it, and how did it turn out? Leave a comment, I’d love to hear your stories!
